Archie Comics is the publisher of the very popular Archie series which features the following characters:

- Archie Andrews

- Betty Cooper

- Veronica Lodge

- Reggie Mantle

- Forsythe "Jughead" Jones

The characters were said to be based on the people John L. Goldwater, publisher/editor, met when he was traveling all over the United States. The first issue of the Archie comic books were published in the Winter of 1942.
The original Archie Comics publications was named MLJ Comics and it started publishing in the year 1939.
The first publications of MLJ Comics was about generic superheroes. First superhero published was The Shield then Captain America and The Comet. The Comet was the first superhero to be killed while on duty.
In the year 1941, the Archie story began to become popular. Back then it was only a backup feature in Pep. So when the story of this teenage boy reached heights, the owners of MLJ decided to change their name to Archie Comics.
Aside from the usual location at Riverdale, Archie and his gang were also cast as superheroes and spies in on eof the issues of the comic books.
In 1943, there is an Archie Andrews radio program that was aired on several networks until the year 1953.
In 1968, Archie was adapted in as a Saturday morning cartoon program which was title The Archie Show.
The band "The Archies", was able to top the charts with their song 'Sugar, Sugar'.
There was also an attempt to adapt Archie into a movie though it was discontinued.
In the 70's and 80's, Archie characters were also featured in a Christian comic book.
